Let me be honest with you. Back in 2018, I was selling insurance and barely getting clients. Meanwhile, my sister was constantly talking about these "remote jobs" she was searching for. But here's the kicker: the internet situation in Nyeri was still bad. Safaricom Fibre hadn't arrived in our neighborhood yet. Can you believe I had to hotspot my computer from my phone EVERY. SINGLE. WORKDAY? For over a year! My poor phone. I learned about dynamic and static IPs. Look at me becoming a techie! But honestly? It was all worth it. This job expanded my entire worldview. I worked with platforms I'd never heard of. I made friends from South Africa, Nigeria, Peru, Venezuela, Ghana—the list is endless! Getting paid in dollars was just epic. I learned to manage my time in ways I never imagined, working odd hours while everyone slept, getting used to being constantly 12 hours behind the Kenyan workday. That was a challenge, but I adapted.
